Yes, Las Vegas certainly has a reputation of being pretty wild!  And with the ever popular marketing slogan of “What happens in Vegas - Stays in Vegas” it certainly gives someone much to think about….. What really does go on in this town?  I have lived here since October of 1984 and through these 28 years I’ve witnessed many things that shouldn’t have ever happened here let alone stayed here!

Recently one of my own personal experiences was being right smack dab in the middle of a bank robbery.  That’s right - it’s the wild wild West out here in good ‘ole Las Vegas complete with our very own bank robbers.  Interestingly enough they don’t wear bandanas over their faces or even brandish any pistols.

It was around 3:00pm on a beautiful sunny afternoon.  I went to my bank to make a deposit.   As I was writing out my deposit slip I was talking on my cell phone to Diann Tonnesen (my boss J).  When I went to get in line for the next teller little did I know the bank robber himself almost bumped right into me.  He had walked in a few minutes earlier and another customer actually held the door open for him (no fingerprints). He simply walked over to the teller and handed her a note asking for all the money she had in her drawer.  Just like that – no yelling – no screaming – no “everyone get on the ground” – maybe it’s not so wild out West after all.  After he took the bank’s money and by the way, left the three customers and our money alone,  he simply walked out the door.

That’s when the alarm went off!  Silly me I tried to leave the bank when I heard the alarm because I thought it might be my car alarm – well that was a big mistake – that’s when all the yelling did start - all the tellers saying stop don’t go out there!  I still had no idea what was truly going on – I mean geez louise they were acting like I robbed the place or something.   I couldn’t have left if I wanted to – we were all locked in until the Police arrived.  After all the statements were taken and everyone was released to go. I was pretty relieved that this particular bank robber had been such a gentleman.  One of the tellers (we’re all good buddies now having gone through the robbery together) told me they were notified that our nice polite bank robber had been caught.

And my moral of this story is…….wild or not you still get caught!
