One of our most experienced real estate agents, Jackie Goodman, is an avid hiker. It's not unusual for her to answer her phone at the top of a cliff somewhere on a sunny Sunday morning. I asked her, "why hiking?" and this was her reply:

I never enjoyed traditional exercising, even as a girl in high school. I found something lacking when running on the treadmill going nowhere fast. But I did like to walk outdoors, and when I wanted more of a challenge, I started hiking.

When my daughter and 12 year old grandson moved away about 4 years ago I lost my hiking partner, and it wasn’t fun hiking alone.  So I searched on line and found Las Vegas Hikers - that was truly my lucky day. I have been a member of the Hiking Las Vegas Meetup Group since 2010.  And even better, my daughter and grandson have returned to Las Vegas, so we hike with the group as a family.

Even though there are probably over 5,000 members of Las Vegas Hikers,  I was lucky to find a core group of about 50 of the most wonderful people with varied backgrounds, from all over the world.  The typical size of a hiking group per excursion is between 6 to 15 hikers, so you get to chat with each of them, and encourage each other, and just be there for each other.   I have to laugh - I am usually the last one up the hill, but they have never left me and they support you every step of the way.

Since joining, I have explored, hiked and scrambled most of the trails at Red Rock Canyon, I've hiked at Mt Charleston, slept in a tent, hiked the Grand Canyon, and kayaked at Lake Mead. I have been blessed to participate in beautiful hiking through the open desert to spectacular views of the Colorado River. Some great ones are the To Hell with Ash Canyon hike and Slowpoke Scramble (that is my favorite).  I have gone for Sedona Play Days that included a little hiking, swimming, and good times.  A couple of other hikes I have attended are North Loop to Raintree and Mummy Springs and Hike to the Arizona Hot Springs.

So if you're bored on the treadmill and enjoy people, come on down. There is a hike for every level, so you will always find a perfect fit.  Just remember it is all about fun, exploring, meeting new people, getting or keeping in shape, and most of all, we practice:

LEAVE NO TRACE HIKING

and we ask that you do too!
